100,000 point bonus is back, but here's the catch

The Capital One Venture X bonus just hit an all-time high of 100,000 points.

That matches what we saw way back when the card first launched, and it’s been a minute since that number came around.

But here’s the thing: just because a bonus is huge doesn’t mean it’s the right card for you.

Let me break down the three big reasons you SHOULD go for it:

The 100,000 bonus is genuinely generous.

Combined with the $300 annual travel credit, the $395 annual fee becomes way more manageable.

You’re also earning 2x points on literally everything, great for those random purchases (like Costco) that don’t fit into bonus categories on other cards.

Three reasons you might want to think twice:

First, the minimum spend is $10,000 in six months. That’s not insignificant; we’re talking roughly $1,667 per month. For a lot of people, that’s a real hurdle.

Second, and this one really hurts: Capital One will change its lounge access policy starting February 2026. Complimentary guest lounge access is being significantly reduced.

You’ll need to pay $30-$50 to bring someone with you into Capital One Lounges or Priority Pass Lounges. Or pay a $125 annual fee for authorized users to get into the lounge. No more free guests.

Third (and I think this gets overlooked): there’s a four-year family card rule. If you ever want to hop down to the regular Venture or Venture One and get those bonuses, you won't be able to.

You’re locked out for 48 months between each card.

So here’s my honest take:

If you can hit $10,000 spend, have flexibility on travel redemptions, and want a strong card that earns on random purchases? Yeah, I’d probably go for it. That 100,000 bonus is huge.

But if the spending requirement is a stretch or you’re not sure about your travel plans? There’s another option worth considering.

THIS CARD has been quietly crushing it lately (if you're targeted for the 100,000 point bonus).

Lower minimum spend ($6,000 in six months), lower annual fee, and you can basically break even just by using the card’s built-in credits.

The downside is there’s no lounge access.

Both are solid. Just depends on what matters more to you.

Seriously, though: Don’t apply just because the bonus is big.

Apply because the card actually fits your spending and travel style.

There are other 100,000+ point bonus cards now, too, which you can check out below.
